The Lookout Mountain Preserve is one of the many units of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, which both preserves and affords access to many of the mountains in the namesake range. Two major trails run through the preserve: the longer of the two stays relatively flat and circles the base of the mountain while the shorter trail heads right up to the summit, necessitating a steep climb up the mountainside. Situated a few miles north of the North Mountains portion of the preserve, this unit offers shorter trails for a quick hike as well as quick access to the northern side of the city. Parking is available at Lookout Mountain Park, which abuts the southeastern edge of the preserve.
