A distinct Phoenix area landmark, Camelback Mountain rises more than 1,200 feet above the surrounding area, reaching an ultimate elevation of 2,704 feet above sea level. Hikers can take one of two strenuous, but rewarding, trails leading up the mountain itself, or opt for an easier path around the mountain base. Located on the northeastern edge of the city, the mountain's red sandstone cliffs and its namesake hump are visible from many miles away.
